SUMMARY:Messiaen - Quartet for the end of time
DESCRIPTION:Messiaen Quartet for the end of time \nThe Emerald Quartet\nJacqui Miles\nDan Mort\nEmma Chamberlain\nJacob Rainbow \nOlivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time (1940–41) is an eight‑movement chamber work for clarinet\, violin\, cello\, and piano\, premiered on 15 January 1941 at Stalag VIII‑A in Görlitz\, where Messiaen was held as a prisoner of war. The unusual instrumentation—clarinet\, violin\, cello\, and piano—reflected the musicians available in the camp. The work lasts about 50 minutes and is considered one of Messiaen’s most significant compositions. \nFellow prisoners Henri Akoka (clarinet)\, Jean le Boulaire (violin)\, and Étienne Pasquier (cello) became the original performers.\nThe premiere took place on 15 January 1941 before roughly 400 prisoners and guards. \nThe work contains eight movements\, each with symbolic or biblical associations drawn from the Book of Revelation: \nCrystal Liturgy – flowing\, mystical textures.\nVocalise for the Angel Announcing the End of Time – dramatic\, fragmented gestures.\nAbyss of the Birds – clarinet solo evoking vast stillness.\nInterlude – light\, dance‑like character.\nPraise to the Eternity of Jesus – slow\, meditative cello–piano duet.\nDance of Fury\, for the Seven Trumpets – driving\, rhythmic unison writing.\nTangle/Cluster of Rainbows – luminous harmonies and shifting colors.\nIn Praise of the Immortality of Jesus – serene\, ascending violin lines.

SUMMARY:Diana Hinds - Kreisleriana by Robert Schumann\, and works by Samuel Barber and Charles Ives
DESCRIPTION:Diana Hinds – Kreisleriana by Robert Schumann\, and works by Samuel Barber and Charles Ives \nKreisleriana\, Op. 16\, is a composition in eight movements by Robert Schumann for solo piano\, subtitled Phantasien für das Pianoforte. Schumann claimed to have written it in only four days in April 1838 and a revised version appeared in 1850. The work was dedicated to Frédéric Chopin\, but when a copy was sent to the Polish composer\, “he commented favourably only on the design of the title page \n\nÄußerst bewegt (Extremely animated)\, D minor\nSehr innig und nicht zu rasch (Very inwardly and not too quickly)\, B♭ major. This movement in ABACA form\, with its lyrical main theme\, includes two contrasting intermezzi. In his 1850 edition\, Schumann extended the first reprise of the theme by twenty measures in order to repeat it in full.\nSehr aufgeregt (Very agitated)\, G minor\nSehr langsam (Very slowly)\, B♭ major/G minor\nSehr lebhaft (Very lively)\, G minor\nSehr langsam (Very slowly)\, B♭ major\nSehr rasch (Very fast)\, C minor/E♭ major\nSchnell und spielend (Fast and playful)\, G minor. Schumann used material from this movement in the fourth movement of his first symphony.

SUMMARY:Rawlinson quartet - Haydn\, Beethoven and Schubert
DESCRIPTION:Haydn Quartet op 76 no 1\nBeethoven Harp quartet\nSchubert Quartettsatz \nThe Rawlinson Quartet\nCharlotte Howdle\nLiz Merrifield\nJulius Kiln\nEmma Chamberlain \nThe six String Quartets\, Op. 76\, by Joseph Haydn were composed in 1797 or 1798 and dedicated to the Hungarian count Joseph Georg von Erdődy. They form the last complete set of string quartets that Haydn composed. At the time of the commission\, Haydn was employed at the court of Prince Nicolaus Esterházy II and was composing the oratorio The Creation as well as Princess Maria Hermenegild Esterházy’s annual mass. \nLudwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 10 in E♭ major\, Op. 74\, was written in 1809 and is nicknamed the “Harp” quartet. The nickname “Harp” refers to the characteristic pizzicato sections in the allegro of the first movement\, where pairs of members of the quartet alternate notes in an arpeggio\, reminiscent of the plucking of a harp. Like many nicknames for Beethoven’s works\, this was created by the publisher. \nThe Quartettsatz c-Moll (Quartet Movement in C minor) D 703 was composed by Franz Schubert in December 1820 as the first movement\, Allegro assai\, of a string quartet he was never to complete. Upon publication it was nonetheless listed as his “String Quartet No. 12”. (Schubert did also compose the first 40 bars of the next movement\, Andante.) The nine-minute work is regarded as an early product of the composer’s mature phase of output.
